First meeting of the new cabinet in the Trèveszaal (Trève hall) in The Hague, chaired by Prime Minister Willem Drees, who was also the one charged with forming a new government. Also with A.A.M. Struycken, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Joseph Luns, Minister of Foreign Affairs, J.M.L.T. Cals, Minister of Education, arts and Science, Jelle Zijlstra, Minister of Economic Affairs, J. Algera, Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Sicco Mansholt, Minister of Agriculture and Fishery, J.G. Suurhoff, Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Ivo Samkalden, Minister of Justice, C. Staf, Minister of War and Navy, H.J. Hofstra, Minister van Finance, Marga Klompé, Minister of Social Work, and H.B.J. Witte, Minister of Housing. Drees gives Klompé a bouquet of flowers because she is the first female Minister.
